Nollywood actor, Leonard Chimezie Onyemachi, popularly known as Leo Mezie has died after years of battling kidney disease.

The 46-year-old actor reportedly died on Saturday after undergoing a kidney transplant.

Mezie had his first kidney transplant over four years ago, and had another one last week, but began to develop complications and died on Saturday.

Nollywood actress, Chioma Toplis, confirmed Mezieā€™s death on her Instagram page on Monday.

She said the actor died on Saturday in Abuja while recovering from a kidney transplant.

Toplis added that his corpse had been moved to Umuahia, his hometown for burial.

She wrote: ā€œActor Leo Mezie is dead. He died on Saturday in Abuja while recovering from a kidney transplant. His corpse has been moved to Umuahia, his hometown. RIP Leo.ā€

Mezie was born on 25 January, 1976. He started acting in 1996 when he joined Nollywood.

In 2003, he rose to stardom after acting in the Nollywood blockbuster ā€˜Labistaā€™ alongside Emma Ehummadu, Jerry Williams and Ernest Asuzu.

He had acted alongside actors and actresses, such as Jerry Amilo, Zack Orji, Chidi Mokeme, among others.

Some of his movies are: Total War, No Manā€™s Land, Heart of a Slave, Close Enemy, Kingā€™s Sleepless Night, and Empty Throne, among others.
