Some critical leaders across party lines from Arochukwu-Ohafia Federal Constituency after their meeting that was held through zoom has endorsed the candidacy of their son, Chief Kelvin Jombo Onumah as their preferred candidate for Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and called on delegates to toe the line of wisdom come this Sunday.
The leaders Insisted that it’s only fair, equitable and just to allow an Abiriba person to represent the constituency, as they remain the only community from Ohafia local government area to be given such opportunity. Abiriba since 1999 or even before 1999 has never occupied the seat. Mao Ohuabunwa from Arochukwu, DK from Ohafia, Arua Arunsi from Nkporo, and now Uko Nkole from Abam have taken shots on the seat.
The Elders said they have decided to come together and do the right thing as It is only fair and equitable to allow an Abiriba person to represent the constituency. Moreso, when the community has come out with a highly acceptable candidate who has the people’s interest at heart and will give all a sense of belonging.
In a communique issued after their enlarged virtual meeting on Thursday, the elders maintained that the sterling and uncommon leadership style shown by the young, humble and highly dynamic Jombo over the years, devoid of any community colouration is one of the qualities that endeared him to them.
They pointed out that “Kelvin Jombo Onumah is not like most of the aspirants who turn to emergency philanthropists for sake of political power. He has been a philanthropists with a pure heart as his philanthropic activities has no political or community colouration.
“We’re convinced that he is in the race for a political office because the people prevailed on him is as a result of some leadership qualities which they saw in him and want to take it to a higher level. Therefore, it becomes necessary to come together and endorse him.”
These Arochukwu-Ohafia leaders drawn from various communities that cut across religious, traditional, political, public and private business world, and indigenous groups at home and the diaspora, posited that they are endorsing Jombo to use him as a testament to other politicians that desire to jump into political office that the period of turning into a emergency philanthropists when election is near is gone.
The communique which was signed by Chief Kalu Peter, Chief Sunday Ifeigbo, Elder Ochuru Ukeagbu, Pastor David Onyeka, Apostle Paul Solomon Inyima, Chief Mrs Gloria Ude, Dr. Iche Kalu among several others, called on the delegates to do the needful as they exercise their political franchise on Sunday and also called on Abia political leaders to ensure a peaceful internal political process across all party line because Abia is known as a peaceful state.
