The Senator representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial District, Obinna Ogba joined others that emerged as the governorship flag bearers of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for 2023 general elections to collect his Certificate of Return, CoR
Ogba emerged the candidate of the PDP on Sunday, 5th June after the National Working Committee of the party rescheduled the election.
Declaring the result, the Chairman of the party’s electoral committee, Engr Chris Okolo, said that Ogba polled 253 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Anayo Nwonu who garnered 110 votes.
However, a State High Court sitting in Abakaliki, the state capital nullified the election held on the 5th of June while upholding the exercise held on 28th and 29th May 2022, a decision which has been described as “judicial joke”.
Speaking with our correspondent IN Abakaliki, Barrister Ogbodo said the decision of the state high court won’t stand because “you can’t put something on nothing.”
He further stated that “a higher court; an appellate court has given an injunction on this matter and that decision nullified whatever Silas Onu did as the chairman.
“There’s a Supreme Court judgement that nomination of candidates is the sole responsibility of political parties and the NWC of the PDP approved what Tochukwu Okorie did as the chairman and this makes Ogba the authentic candidate of the party,” he said.
