About 32 persons have lost their lives and hundreds of others critically injured following an alleged helicopter-aided attack by terrorists in Southern Kaduna.
Reports says the terrorists razed houses, including Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in the area.
According to the National President of Adara Development Association (ADA), Awemi Maisamari, four villages were razed during the attack.
He said, “The pogrom against Adara nation rages on. In the latest tragedy, Ungwan Gamu, Dogon Noma, Ungwan Sarki and Maikori villages near Maro in Kajuru Local Council were attacked on Sunday, June 5, 2022.
“The death toll this morning (Wednesday) is 32, as villagers comb surrounding bushes for more bodies. Seven were found this morning decomposing.”
He said that the attack which started around noon and lasted until around 06:00 p.m. went on, unchallenged by the state as he said it was carried out by Fulani terrorists that came on 150 motorcycles carrying three armed persons each.
He added that while the attack was going on, youths from the communities tried to repel the attack.
“But in the process of the counter attack, a white helicopter appeared and the people thought it was from the Nigerian Air Force”, he said.
“But to their surprise, the helicopter started shelling the communities with mounted guns and grenades, forcing the youths who were armed with locally made dane guns, bows and arrows to flee.
“Meanwhile, the ground terrorists were moving from village to village under the cover of the helicopter, killing people in their numbers, burning down houses, farmlands and livestock.
“They operated for six good hours and the security agencies were no where to be found. As at this morning, the death toll has risen to 45 while more than 120 people have been injured. The communities are now like ghost towns as almost everyone had fled the communities,” Gambo Mohammed, a Kaduna State-based journalist quoted Maisamari.
