The Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon. Ahmed Muhammed has been impeached by the house for alleged misconduct.
His impeachment was following a motion of urgent importance read by member representing (Dekina/Okura) State Constituency, Hon. Enema Paul, during an emergency sitting held on Friday at the state assembly complex in Lokoja.
Muhammed alongside three other principal officers of the state assembly, Bello Hassan Balogun (Majority Leader), Idris Ndako (Deputy Majority Leader) and Hon. Edoko Moses Ododo (Chief Whip), were accused of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
The house, however, announced Alfa Momoh Rabiu, a lawmaker representing Ankpa II, as the new Deputy Speaker, Hon. Muktar Bajeh (Majority Leader), Umar Isah Tanimu (Deputy Majority Leader), Enema Paul (Deputy Chief Whip), and Ahmed Dahiru (Chief Whip).
During the impeachment process, there was heavy presence of security operatives around the assembly complex comprising of Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), and the Department of State Services (DSS).
17 out of 25 lawmakers signed the impeachment of Hon. Ahmed Mohammed and the suspension of three other principal officers in the house.
