The sound of the gunshots caused panic in the area as motorists parked their vehicles and took refuge inside the Gariki Park.

One of them said on telephone, “as I’m talking to you, they are still shooting. What we heard initially was that two policemen were killed. But I think the policemen are still returning firepower that’s why we’re still hearing the sound of gunshots by now.

“It is only someone who passed through that place that can say exactly what happened. Currently, everybody has run into the park for safety”.

Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Daniel Ndukwe said the details of the attack is still sketchy, adding that operatives of the command have been mobilized to the area.

“There was an attack on Policemen on stop and search duty this morning, along Agbani Road, close to Enugu/Port-Harcourt Expressway, by yet-to-be identified hoodlums.

“However, details of the incident are still sketchy, while Command’s Tactical/Operational Operatives have been mobilized and are on the trail of the miscreants.

“Further development will be communicated, please.”
