The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng has ordered an investigation into the alleged extortion of a resident of the state by officers of the command.

On Friday, Human rights activist turn politician, Harrison Gwamnishu said his organisation, Behind Bars Human Rights Foundation facilitated the return of N600, 500 to the owner, one Chidiebere by the officers of the command from Central Police Station, Onitsha.

In his Facebook post, Harrison Gwamnishu who’s running for Delta State House of Assembly under the Labour Party said the officer, Harrison Emerenini threatened to tag the victim a member of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, forcing him to part with the huge sum.

But in a statement made available to JOURNALIST101 on Saturday, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu Anipr, the Public Relations Officer of the command said “the Commissioner of Police CP Echeng Echeng has directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of X-Squad to investigate and unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

He added that the CP Echeng has maintained a zero tolerance for corruption and urged the citizens to come forward with more information, while assuring them that their identity will be secured.

“The CP who frown at such act, reiterated that the command under his watch will not tolerate any forms of unprofessional conduct by police personnel. He also urge citizens to report any Police alterations/Conducts to X Squad and Public Complaints Bureau PCB of the Command or call 112, 07039194332 or 08039334002

“Confidentiality is guaranteed.”
