Amidst speculations that a former Governorship Aspirant in Enugu State under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chijioke Edeoga has picked the ticket of the Labour Party, JOURNALIST101 reports authoritatively that the party is yet to decide on who their Guber Candidate will be.
Penultimate week, both print and social media was awash with reports that the former Commissioner of environment in the Coal City state will fly the flag of Peter Obi’s Labour Party In the 2023 general election.
However, sources at Labour Party’s secretariat told our correspondent that they’re yet to decide on the person that will be their governorship candidate.
“Please disregard what you’re hearing in the media with respect to the candidate of our party in Enugu State,” the source said.
“Yes, we’re happy with the acceptance we are receiving in a state like Enugu that has been monopolised by the PDP but we’re still doting out Is and crossing our Ts on who it will be,” the source who craved to be anonymous said.
“The party isn’t unaware of the existing zoning in Enugu and we’re working to present a formidable candidate with the capacity to break the PDP jinx and the people will be happy with our choice.”
Asked about the persons being considered, the source said: “the only thing I can tell you is that the person must be from Enugu East Senatorial Zone (the zone favoured by our finding to produce the next governor). We are working this out and everything will be made public soon.”
There is a strong indication that Chijioke Edeoga might be the candidate of the party but some pieces of information we can’t confirm says Edeoga might be getting the senatorial ticket to square up with former Governor, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani.
The window for substitution given by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for Presidency and National Assembly will close by 17th of July and the picture will be clearer.
