Hon. Osita Kelvin Okenwa, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, has announced his exit from the ruling party in the country.
Hon. Osita Kelvin Okenwa, a founding member of the APC Enugu State, in his resignation letter addresses to his Ukehe ward 1 chairman in Igboetiti local government area of Enugu State, said his decision to dump the party isn’t unconnected to the abysmal performance of the party in the country.
Hon. Okenwa who was the candidate of the party for Igbo Etiti East State Assembly election in 2015, said all the promises made by the party to the citizens have been broken and he can’t in good conscience, support the party going forward.
“My reasons aren’t farfetched. As a political party, APC made a promise to secure Nigerians, they made a promise to improve the economy and they made a promise to provide employment for our teeming youths. Unfortunately, these promises were broken without qualms of conscience.
“I can’t, therefore, in good conscience, support the APC going forward.”
Sources close to Hon. Okenwa told our correspondent that the reward system of the party is another factor responsible for the exit of the party chieftain who has committed his personal resources to the party since 2014.
“If I were Okenwa, I would have left earlier than now,” the source who doesn’t want his name mentioned said. “How can you be labouring for a party and total strangers and newcomers will be reaping the fruits of your labour.
“To me, Osita Kelvin Okenwa even left very late but I’m convinced it’s the performance of the party at the centre that forced him out and not necessarily what he has lost over the years supporting the party.”
In a chat with our correspondent, Hon. Okenwa said he’s not joining any political party yet, but will take his time before declaring support for another party.
