Ekiti State Government has confirmed the death of the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Funminiyi Afuye, revealing that he died of cardiac arrest.
The 66-year-old lawmaker passed away on Wednesday. He represented Ikere constituency 1.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Yinka Oyebode issued a statement Wednesday night.
The spokesperson noted that the state government was sad about Afuye’s demise.
“Rt. Hon Afuye died Wednesday evening at the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado- Ekiti, where he was receiving treatment after suffering a cardiac arrest”, he said.
The deceased was a former Commissioner of Information and two-time member of the State Legislature.
Afuye was assumed office as Speaker of the sixth Assembly on June 6, 2019.
