The candidate contesting for the Nkanu-East State House of Assembly, Hon Micheal Onu Emmanuel has announced plans to launch the first ever all-Nkanu football tournament.
Emmanuel while interacting with journalists said the tournament titled ‘A Better Nkanu Tournament’ will be an improvement on Mburubu Unity Cup Tournament, which his group, Meek Foundation has been sponsoring in the last two years in Mburubu community, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State.
According to him, A Better Nkanu Tournament will come in two parts, the friendlies, which will be played among the communities, with participating communities getting cash prizes.
“After the friendly matches, we shall start the major tournament. For the major tournament, the prize for the Winner, First runner-up, and Second runner-up will be impressive. Gold medals will be awarded too.
“We are excited about this far-reaching novel social advancement”, Hon Emmanuel stated.
He further said that the encouragement Meek Foundation has so far received from Mburubu players is part of the reason they were motivated to take it beyond one community.
His words “The players love the arrangement because it has been unequivocally transparent. I personally believe that “sports serve as an avenue to influence social, political, and diplomatic connections.”
Speaking on his ambition to represent Nkanu-East in the Enugu State House of Assembly under the Young Progressives Party, Hon Emmanuel said “In government, transparency is the cornerstone of good governance and legislative transformation driven by policy prescriptions that better people’s lives.
“As election campaign begins, we are looking forward to organizing “A Better Nkanu Tournament” to unite and strengthen Nkanu people.
“Sport is a vigorous and unique mechanism to attain social cohesion and unity simultaneously, to teach people the genuine spirit of camaraderie”, he added.
