Teachers serving in Udi local government area of Enugu State, have declared their support for the National and State Assembly candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking to represent Enugu West Senatorial zone at both the National Assembly and State House of Assembly in the forthcoming general election.
The teachers made the declaration on Tuesday, 25th October, 2022, at a well attended town hall meeting held in Udi LGA Council Secretariat.
Welcoming the guests, the host and Executive Chairman of Udi LGA, Nze Hon. Philip Okoh appreciated the teachers, stating that their crucial role in nation building cannot be overemphasized.
In his remark, the Udi LG Education Secretary, Mr. Hycienth Eneugwu hailed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ably led by His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, CON for fielding credible and capable candidates with excellent track records in both private and public sectors to represent the Zone in the National and State Assembly.
He expressed optimism in their (candidates) ability to sponsor people-oriented bills that would address the prevailing welfare challenges of teachers in Enugu State in particular, and Nigeria in general.
In their separate speeches, the elated teachers thanked the leaders for availing them the opportunity to interact and exchange opinions with them especially as it borders on their welfare and good governance, maintaining that such gesture was unprecedented.
They pledged to mobilize and galvanize grassroot support and ensure that PDP candidates emerge victorious at the poll.
Addressing the teachers, the Enugu West Senatorial candidate of the PDP, Engr. Osita Ngwu popularly known as RG, described them as priceless gifts to humanity.
While appreciating the plights of teachers in the country, the Ngwo-born industrialist stated that his mother was a teacher and therefore, the difficulties faced by teachers in moulding the society are not strange to him.
He further reiterated his resolve to partner with his National Assembly counterparts, State House of Assembly members, and the Executive arm of government to find a lasting solution to their challenges if elected.
In his remark, former Chief of Staff, Government House, Enugu, RT. Hon. F.S.A. Uzor and the candidate of the PDP for Udi/Ezeagu federal constituency, while thanking the teachers for their sacrifices and selfless services to the State, described teachers as catalysts for positive changes in the society.
He pointed out that the current challenges of teachers is not peculiar to Enugu State, adding that it is a national crisis that requires decisive legislative provisions and strong political will to address.
He further appealed for their continued prayers and supports for the Party which he said is very pivotal for effective service delivery.
Similarly, the PDP candidates for Udi North and South State constituencies; Hon. Uche Ugwu and Hon. Okechukwu Aneke, thanked the teachers for their crucial role in national development.
They tasked the teachers on partnership and continued support and prayers for the PDP to deliver on their promises to the people.
The Director Generals (DGs) of various candidates in Enugu West and notable PDP Stakeholders witnessed the event.
