The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has declared their readiness to work with the Police Compaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) to curb the menace of Internet fraud in our society.
The Commander of the Enugu Zonal Command of the EFCC, ACE Oshodi Johnson made the promise when the team from POCACOV paid him a familiarisation visit at the Commission’s zonal office in Enugu.
Speaking during the visit, the National Coordinator of POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu told ACE Johnson that the campaign wishes to curb the menace of Internet fraud in our society and with the help of the commission, they will cut the supply chain.
“We are here to seek ways we can work together to save the future of the youths of this country. We have a Resource Centre here in Enugu that’s in charge of the thirty-six states of the Federation including the FCT. Since you control the affairs of the EFCC in the South-East, we decided to seek your support to solve this problem.”
“We understand that EFCC aside being a creation of the government is also a critical stakeholder in the fight for a better society and they you have a great role to play in our campaign to reduce the influx of young minds to crime.
“When we sensitise the young ones, we will expose them to the dangers of Internet fraud. The idea is to reduce those entering into the crime and not to arrest them.
“The campaign is designing a module which will identify those on the ‘yellow zone’ and make effort to dissuade their mind by offering them another alternative instead of fraud. When you save those in the yellow zone, they won’t cross over to the ‘red zone’,” Amaraizu said.
The Zonal commander of EFCC, ACE Oshodi Johnson expressed delight with the initiative, adding that they’re wiling to work with POCACOV in developing the modules needed to drive the message home.
He also decried the rate young persons go into crime, stressing that both religious leaders and families haven’t done enough in preaching against the get rich syndrome that’s ravaging our society.
Rev Chukwudiebube Amaechi Nwachukwu, POCACOV Advisor at IGP POCACOV Resource Centre Enugu, in his closing remarks, thanked the EFCC Zonal commander for his readiness to work with the Police initiative.
He said that “the emphasis of what POCACOV is doing is in prevention and it’s yielding fruits,” adding that “families should play their roles in character molding.
Highpoint of the visit was the presentation of POCACOV moral guide book and other materials to the EFCC commander as well as the presentation of the Commission’s establishment act and other awareness material to the POCACOV team.
