Professor Chief Mrs. Theresa Oguakwa [nee Mbaoji], mother of former House of Representatives Member, Rt. Hon Barrister KGB Oguakwa, is dead.
Announcing the demise of their Matriarch, her husband Professor Jim Oguakwa – a 1992 Nobel Prize in Chemistry nominee & a former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, issued an Obituary, which is published below.
Former Governor of Anambra State & Labour Party Presidential Candidate Mr. Peter Obi, IBB’s Director of Military Intelligence General Haliru Akilu, Governor Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State, his counterpart Governor Bello Masari of Katsina State, Dr. Peter Mbah the Enugu Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party & his Deputy Barrister Ifeanyi Ossai, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Ignatius Okpara the Enyi 1 of Agbada-Inyi, and His Royal Highness Alhaji Iro Maikano -the Sarkin Matazu, Katsina State, former Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives Rt Hon Dimeji Bankole, Grand President of the Knights of St. John International Abuja Brig-Gen Sir Bonaventure Ugwuja, the best friend of the deceased & seasoned Banker Dr. Mrs. Virgy Anohu, a former Minister of Transport Alhaji Idris Umar, Group Chairman/CEO Umza Rice Brand, Alhaji Mohammed Maifata, and Pharmaceutical Industrialist/CEO AC Drugs Limited Chief Anietom Igweobi, who were amongst the earliest mourners to send in their condolences or visit her son’s Inyi, Enugu & NASS Quarters Apo Abuja residences to pay personal condolences to the Family on the demise of their Matriarch and fill opened Condolence Registers, variously described the late Professor Theresa Oguakwa as a remarkable Girls’ Guide, an outstanding sportswoman, an exemplary daughter, protective sister, loving wife, doting mother and grandmother, a devout Catholic Christian, a distinguished academic, an astute administrator, a vibrant ASUU trade unionist, an accomplished philologist, a prolific university lecturer of Russian language & literature, a champion of education, a philanthropist, an irrepressible advocate for peace, an abiding friend, a community icon, and a trailblazer par excellence. They prayed God to accept and repose her soul in heaven while providing fortitude and consolation to the bereaved family.
Survived by her husband Professor Jim, by her poet-lawyer-politician son KGB, by her eldest daughter Dr. Ifesi – one of the 20 athletes that represented Nigeria at the 1986 World Junior Championship in Athletics in Athens, Greece, who is a United States Board Certified Family Physician, and by her youngest child Mrs. Viviana Nwamaka Chukwuani – a Federal Public Servant, and by numerous relations including her nephew & distinguished technocrat Chief Sir Charles Mbaoji, the late Professor Chief Mrs. Theresa Oguakwa [nee Mbaoji], a retired University of Nigeria Nsukka Scholar, died in the United States after a bout of ill health, aged 77.
