Three persons, including the uncle of the spokesperson of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), have been feared dead after gunmen attacked the residence of Ikenga Ugochinyere, at Akokwa in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State.
Ikenga announced the attack In a distress message sent to Deji Adeyanju.
“We need help to Akokwa… We are under attack… My house in Akokwa… They have surrounded it and opened fire. We are under attack.
“Help help.”
Also confirming the development, Omoyele Sowore said the uncle of Ikenga Imo has been killed and called on security agents to protect the opposition spokesman at all cost.
“I just received distress call from @IkengaImo in the last few minutes that his house is surrounded by elements believed to be assassins sent by Imo state govt and his uncle had just been killed.
“Security agents must protect @IkengaImo of CUPP and ensure his total safety!”
According to a source from the area, the gunmen who came in large numbers were confronted in a fierce gun duel by Ugochinyere’s police orderlies, preventing them from getting at him.
But his uncle living close to him was said to have been killed during the melee and two others yet to be identified butchered to death.
According to videos circulating on social media, the gunmen set some houses around his residence on fire including vehicles.
“They came with arms, guns and everything. They attacked his compound, killed one of his (Ikenga’s) security aides and shot many others. So many people were injured.
