Comrade Obiora Omeje

A human rights activist, Obiora Omeje, popularly known as Zigma, has charged the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Enugu to ensure that the  Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) isn’t Compromised in the state.

Comrade Omeje who was reacting to the commencement of the distribution of sensitive materials by INEC for the 2023 general elections said the BVAS represents hope to the electorates, as such, must perform at it’s optimum.

Zigma urged INEC to rise up to their responsibility and ensure that both their staff and ad-hoc staff plays according to the rules.

“INEC must ensure that the BVAS machines given to the Adhoc staff isn’t compromised. electorates should note that before the commencement of voting, the machine should be on zero reading to ensure that it’s not preloaded and avoid any funny practice.

“In Enugu State, the REC owes us a duty to ensure that there’s no complaints. We can’t afford to be left out as a state in this new innovation backed up by the new electoral act.”

He advised the electorates to confirm their current polling unit because the electoral commission has said that only 750 persons will be in a unit and the rest moved to the next less populated area.

Speaking further, Omeje frowned at the schemism that characterised the distribution of the permanent voters card in some parts of the state.

He called on the youths which constitutes a greater percentage of registered voters to come out and exercise their franchise, while commending the Nigeria University Commission for giving the students the opportunity to vote by shutting down the territory institutions.
