As Nigerians head to the poll to cast their votes, the opposition in Enugu North Senatorial District of Enugu State are currently in disarray as accusations and counter accusations is the order of the day.
JOURNALIST101 reliably gathered that the agents of most of the opposition parties have abandoned ship in the wake of the election and following what some of them described as “deceit in the most advanced form.” While some of the opposition candidates for the National Assembly elections have been able to give their agent tag to another persons, a good number of them don’t have agents in most of the polling units.
“What we’re seeing is beyond shocking,” one of the party agents told our correspondent. “We were called for a meeting on Friday night and after the meeting, we were told that we’re volunteers and as such, there won’t be any form of payment but we will be given small stipends.
“When we asked how much is the stipends, they told us no amount but anything we see, we should make due with it. Is this not deceit in the most advanced form? To make matter worst, they told us that we can only get the money after election.
Another party agent who gave his name simply as Onuiyi Okechukwu, said “the action of some of these candidates in the last 48 hours simply showed that they were not contesting any election. How can you tell your followers that you’re doing them a favour by contesting in the election?
“We’re very aware that the party released money for the presidential and National Assembly elections but they want us to work for free. It’s even clearer to me that they’re worse than the persons they criticise,” he concluded.
