Barely three days to the 2023 Governorship elections in Enugu state, the House of Assembly candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, for Nkanu West Constituency, Mr. Ifeanyi Okenwa has stepped down for his Labour Party counterpart, Johnpaul Anih and declared total support for his emergence.
Mr. Okenwa who led over one thousand members of the party on a solidarity visit to Johnpaul, said he stands out as the best amongst other candidates in the race.
Speaking to journalist on Tuesday, Okenwa noted that the decision was to ensure that Nkanu West is rescued from its current epileptic representation and abysmal performance of the PDP candidate who has spent 12 years in the position but achieved nothing for the people.
According to him, “we’re no longer comfortable with the leadership provided by the leading party in our local government and we need someone to rescue it if we must progress as a constituency.”
“Johnpaul Anih is an amazing personality whose tract records are indelible. The only way to rescue Nkanu West constituency from the grip of underrepresentation is to support Johnpaul. He is simply the best amongst other candidates”.
“With him at the House of Assembly, Nkanu West will be proud to have a lawmaker. The young man has proven beyond any reasonable doubt that he has the capacity, the right temperament for leadership, the will and the knowledge to represent us.
“Today, we have come in the spirit of solidarity to declare our support and throw our weight behind him for the good of Ndi Nkanu West. I therefore urge all my supporters, party faithfuls and lovers of equity to vote for Labour Party in the coming election”
“We have therefore resolved to collapse our structures in the local government into the Labour Party and to work for the victory of Johnpaul Anih who symbolises the hope of the people of Nkanu West”.
Responding, the Labour Party House of Assembly candidate in Nkanu West, Johnpaul Anih, appreciated their gesture and assured of quality, vibrant, effective and accountable representation anchored on the will of the people if elected.
“I thank Hon. Ifeanyi Okenwa and his team for leading the struggle for a new, better and prosperous Nkanu West. Time for ‘Ojebego’ is gone. The transactional politics we play in Nkanu West is why we are currently in this mess. I assure you that I will represent you to the best of my ability and make you all proud “.
“I urge you all to come out en mass on Saturday and cast your votes for Labour Party. God bless Enugu state” he concluded.
