The chairman of Igboetiti local government area of Enugu State has dismissed as mischievous, a letter making the rounds on social media suggesting that the council threatened to cease the salaries of appointees of the local government.
Hon Ikenna Nwodo, Executive Chairman, Igboetiti LGA in a statement made available to newsmen said “This is not only fake news but a spurious and unfounded allegation cynically and maliciously contrived by desperate politicians to demoralize the appointees and malign the untainted integrity of the Government and good people of Igboetiti.”

The complete statement reads:
The attention of the Government Igboetiti Local Government Area has been drawn to a mischievously concocted letter purportedly instructing the cessation of the salaries and allowances of all appointees in the Local Government.
This is not only fake news but a spurious and unfounded allegation cynically and maliciously contrived by desperate politicians to demoralize the appointees and malign the untainted integrity of the Government and good people of Igboetiti.
Our Government is consciously sensitive to the Fundamental Human Rights of the citizenry, the inalienable tenets of democracy and the sacrosanctity of freedom.
The public is hereby enjoined to disregard completely such incendiary, provocative and insipid publications dubiously designed to deceive the electorate and score cheap political capital. May I therefore, use this opportunity to remind the good people of Igboetiti that as Saturday, the 18th day of March 2023 Gubernatorial Election speedily approaches, more inflammatory, mischievous and alarmist fake news are bound to resurface.
All supporters of our great party are hereby encouraged to vote wisely.
