The hope of former Enugu State governor, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani to return to the Red Chamber has been brought to an end as he lost his reelection bid in Enugu East Senatorial district to Labour Party candidate, Sir Kelvin Chukwu.
The LP candidate polled 69, 136 to beat Chimaroke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who scored 48, 701 votes.
Kelvin replaced his brother, Oyibo Chukwu, who was murdered just 3 days before the Feb. 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.
Sir Kelvin Chukwu is the younger brother of Oyibo Chukwu who was murdered days before the 2023 Presidential election.
In his reaction, Nnamani said that the people have spoken, but said they spoke under the influence of “ethnic jingoism and religious extremism” which was propelled by the trio of priests, Igbo patriots and vulnerable youths.
“In the land of the Igbo, the people have spoken. They have spoken under the influence of an unholy concoction of the 2 most powerful social opioids, Ethnic Jingoism and religious extremism both powered by the trilogy of priests, Igbo patriots and vulnerable youths.”
