The Nkanu West House of Assembly candidate of the Labour Party in the just concluded gubernatorial elections in Enugu state, Hon. Johnpaul Anih has expressed his dissatisfaction over the election results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, on Sunday.
The electoral umpire had declared the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Iloabuchi Aniagu, as the winner of the March 18th polls.
Hon. Johnpaul Anih in a statement, said the results announced by the apex electoral body did not “reflect the will of the people”.
“This fraudulent election didn’t meet the standard of what should be called a free, fair and credible election because figures were concocted and manufactured fraudulently by the INEC to favour PDP. We cannot accept this daylight robbery.
He promised to challenge the result in court and reclaim the stolen mandate.
Hon. Johnpaul Anih explained that there were several reported cases of violence especially in Akpugo, Agbani, Obuoffia, Obe, Amodu, Umueze and Akegbe-Ugwu, gross electoral malpractice and widespread electoral fraud by agents of the PDP and officials of the Electoral Commission, as against stipulated guidelines in the electoral act, adding that the exercise was marred by outright manipulation of results and over voting among others in favor of the assumed winner of the poll.
“These actions violate the fundamental principles guaranteeing free and fair elections according to the electoral act and we will seek redress at the court”
“The people of Nkanu West Constituency, massively came out to vote to echo their tiredness with the current dispensation under the PDP government in the state.”
Anih however urged his teeming supporters to keep hope alive and shun violence as victory was certain.
He appreciated the efforts of the electorate across political affiliations for their support and unprecedented demonstration of democratic ethics at the polls.
