Teenage Development for Africa (Teen Africa) and Eminent Empowerment & Inclusion Network (EMINET), have called for the signing of the “bill for a law to provide for the full integration of persons with disabilities into society, establish the Enugu State Persons with disabilities commission,” into law, while congratulating the Enugu State House of Assembly for passing the all important bill.
The new Law which henceforth is to be cited as Enugu State Discrimination Against Persons with Disability (Prohibition) Law, 2022 also provides the establishment of a commission vested with the responsibilities for the education, healthcare, social economic and civil rights of the PWD community in Enugu State.
The Bill which is with funding support from the Urgent Action Africa (UAF) will vest in the commission, the responsibilities for their education, healthcare, social, economic and civil rights and for connected purposes.
In a statement signed by Ms. Kobi Ikpo for Teen Africa and Dr Ifeoma Chukwuma, the Executive Director of EMINET, the groups “pray His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to bequeath the State with a rich and long-lasting legacy by speedily giving assent to this law before handing over power on 29th May, 2023.”

“On behalf of all of us at Teenage Development for Africa (Teen Africa) Ltd/Gte, Eminent Empowerment and Inclusion Network (EMINET), our funders, other collaborators, stakeholders and persons with disabilities who over the years have been at the forefront of the advocacy for the passage of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities Prohibition law, we say hearty congratulations to the 7th Assembly of the Enugu State Legislature, for passing the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities Prohibition bill into law on the 4th of April, 2023.
“This law sets the stage for inclusive development in the State by providing for the full integration of persons with disabilities into society and also establishes the Enugu State Persons with Disabilities Commission, vesting upon it, the responsibility for their education, healthcare, social, economic, civil rights and connected purposes.
“As we commend the Legislature for setting the stage for transforming Enugu State into an inclusive society, we pray His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to bequeath the State with a rich and long-lasting legacy by speedily giving assent to this law before handing over power on 29th May, 2023.”
