Former PDP National Auditor Barr. Ray Nnaji, has advised Enugu Governor-elect, Peter Mbah the class of persons that must not find their way into his administration if he wants to succeed.

Nnaji emphasised that Mbah must be very careful in selecting those to work with him and avoid career politicians that have nothing to bring to the table, adding that the circumstances that surrounded his(Mbah’s) victory makes the situation more complicated for the Governor-elect.

“He should understand that the crisis in the party that led to this situation has snowballed into a big problem that could cause him sleepless nights if he doesn’t make correct choices.

“The party did not perform well to the extent that it lost to an unknown party. Today, the unknown party has dominated the House of Assembly. PDP has become a minority in a state they have been controlling apart from securing the Governorship position.

“So it’s an uneasy calm and he should not take it for granted by relaxing to do appointment based on sentiment or patronage. He should look for capability, competence and courage, with integrity; people who have what it takes. His first appointment will determine if the state will move forward or not.

“So he should be very careful in selecting people into any position. He can do that when he has stabilized.

“People might be lobbying but it’s left for him. We know a lot of people played different roles during the election, this is not time for that. He must look for credible people.

“Mbah is not lucky like other governors who had the opportunity to play around with people and appointments, his is different because of how he emerged. He must be very careful.

“Especially, those people who contributed to failure of our party shouldn’t be allowed to come close for now. Also, he made a lot of promises which should be fulfilled.

“Most of us are politicians; we were there before. But since 2007 I have not held any position; let them go and look for other things and get themselves fixed up for a while.

“Most of them are made. So why must they remain in the corridors of power? It’s not compulsory the government must settle them. Except someone who is going to add value to the government and is ready to work.

“And some of them who have been from government to government would not want to come out and try their luck some other places; they will like to remain in government. And these are the people causing trouble.

“He should be very careful and not allow those things to happen. And whatever happened that made the party to lose woefully in the election should not repeat itself.

“Not a situation where because someone has been in government he should continue to be in government. It shouldn’t be for settlement or because one is out of position or out of job.

”It Shouldn’t be government of settlement, government of patronage; people are already running around even those who didn’t contribute to his success and who cannot add value.

“So many of them who have been in government for a long time, they should come out and stay outside for sometime.”
