Federal Road Safety Corp, Anambra Sector Command, has confirmed the death of one male while four other; 2 males and 2 females sustained injuries following a fatal accident in the state.

RC Margaret B Onabe, the Ag. Sector Public Education Officer in statement made available to newsmen, said the incident happened on May 3rd, 2023 at Old Asaba Park by Awka-Onitsha expressway by 3:30pm

RC Onabe said the accident involved 3 unidentified drivers of a commercial Daihatsu Hijet bus with Registration number: AKL978XM, Commercial Howo Truck with registration number: AWK899ZQ and a Commercial Mitsubishi L300 bus with registration number: SKA439XA.

“The probable cause of the fatal crash was attributed to speed and brake failure. According to eyewitness the truck driver was on speed, failed brake while trying to get control of the vehicle, rammed into the two buses and crashed.

“2 male adults and 3 female adults were involved in the crash. One male adult was killed
Two male adults and 2 female adults were injured.”

She further stated that “the FRSC rescue team from RS5.31A Upper-Iweka Onitsha Anambra State rushed the victims to Toronto hospital Onitsha where one male adult was confirmed dead and his corpse deposited at same hospital mortuary. The injured victims are currently receiving treatment. The team also ensured obstruction caused by the crash was cleared.

“The Sector Commander Anambra State Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi sympathised with the family of the dead victim and wished the injured victims quick recovery.

“He warned motorist to desist from overspspeeding and observe recommended safe speed limits,” the statement reads in part.
