Deji Adeyanju, a former Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused President Bola Tinubu of appointing Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi as the acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Mr. Shonubi was appointed tye acting Governor of the CBN by president Tinubu following the suspension of Godwin Emefiele on Friday night.

Following his suspension, Emefiele was directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the CBN governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.

But Mr Adeyanju said it is a disappointment for Tinubu to appoint Shonubi as acting CBN governor.

In a series of tweet, he questioned the qualification criteria of the Acting CBN Governor, stating that his preference was based on his tribe.

“While I commend President Bola Tinubu for suspending Emefiele, I am highly disappointed that he has appointed Shonubi, a mechanical engineer as Acting Governor of the Apex bank.

“Kenya just appointed an Economist with PhD. as its CBN Governor. Turkey has also recently done same.

”While we are still saying the Federal Government must stop appointing bankers as CBN Governor because they know nothing about fiscal policies or how to run an economy, the new President goes to appoint a mechanical engineer as Acting CBN Governor. This is why nations fail.

“All the other Deputy Governors in CBN are his seniors and more qualified than him, but he was picked as Acting CBN Governor because of tribalism.

“The only reason why that guy was named acting is because he is Yoruba. A mechanical engineer should not even be in CBN or working in a bank in the first place but this is Nigeria where all things are possible.”
