Hon. Chukwuma Martins Ekwueme, a member of newly inaugurated Enugu House of Assembly, says their inauguration “marks the dawn of a new era in political consultations and consolidation.”
He assured that the welfare of the people will be given a priority by “ensuring that resources allocated for developmental programs reach the grassroots.”
In his inaugural speech, Hon. Ekwueme who represents Uzo-Uwani Constituency in the 8th Assembly promised to “show a unique commitment to providing accessible and affordable healthcare, equitable education, and sustainable infrastructure for socio- economic development,” while adding that he won’t be “afraid to push for policies that elevate standards of living, lean on the wisdom, thoughts, and perceptions of the people I represent because our legislative agenda must be defined by the collective will of the people.
“I will also demonstrate unwavering support for the principles of transparency and accountability in all our dealings. I recognize that the State House of Assembly is a platform created to promote transparency and accountability- therefore I’ll have a rigorous approach toward the adoption, dissemination, and enforcement of the necessary frameworks that will support transparency and accountability.
He also urged his colleagues to “maintain an environment that is conducive to the realization of our mandate,” while stressing that “efforts must be made to ensure that all elected officials are given the support they need to discharge their responsibilities.
“We have enormous responsibilities before us, thus must be guided by a vision, the goals of which are to put our state on the path of excellence, innovation, and economic growth. We must adopt a laser focus on the key issues that impact our people, by committing each of our resources, including our expertise, intellect, energy, and innovative capacity to see these issues addressed in a positive light. Our strength lies in our ability to remain determined, focused, and optimistic in the face of challenges.”
Ekwueme further promised that as a member of the 8th Assembly, he will work very hard with his colleagues “to ensure the democratization of our political process, the promotion of peace, stability, and development, and the provision of good governance that will address the needs of the people.”
