Human rights activist Abdul Mahmud who was Illegally arrested by the police has regained his freedom.

Confirming his arrest earlier today, Mahmud, a staunch supporter of Peter Obi said one ACP Zara Muhammed came for him because he stood up for an ordinary Nigerian that was been intimidated at karu police station.

He said his house was invaded in the early hours of today by police operatives led by Inspector Sola Olalekan and was taken to a police station at Abacha Road, Mararaba.

Following various interventions and condemnation by various individuals and civil society organisation, the Lawyer was released around 5pm.

Mahmud confirmed his release in a twitter space which is hosted to draw attention to his arrest.

“I’m now a free man,” he said while speaking through the phone of one of the persons that went to the station to demand his release.

“I was arrested by the police in an attempt to defend an ordinary Nigerian.”
