Coalition of civil society organizations (CSOs) have called for the suspension and probe of the Medical Director of Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu, Dr. Monday Igwe over alleged abuse of office, nepotism and corruption.
In a letter written to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the coalition said their call in “is with sole intent of entrenching rule of law and ensuring service delivery in public institutions.”
The letter which was signed by Comrade Igboke Onyebuchi, Convener Coalition of Civil Society Organizations, Enugu informed the SGF that they “have witnessed gross abuse of office, nepotism and corruption by Dr Monday Igwe the Medical Director of Neuropsychiatric Hospital New Heaven Enugu.
“We have it on record recent directive from the Federal Ministry of Health which is the supervisory ministry, mandating him to immediately reopen the school of mental nursing which he shutdown albeit Illegally and return all the staff of the school he hitherto transferred out while carrying out the illegal action. The Medical Director just shut down the School which serves students from the South East and middlebelt mainly.
“He continues to abuse and harass other staff of the institution with his usual rhetoric ‘I have enormous power, and it is only the President and my brother in the Army that can advise or instruct me, the Civil Service rule means nothing.”
Highlighting the some of abuses committed by Dr. Igwe, Comrade Igboke said the MD “personally approved his wife’s study leave to United Kingdom with full payment even when it is very clear from the memo of head of service that such shouldn’t be granted.”
“Bellow remains his current actions of nepotism that need immediate investigations.

9). All Hospital Contractors are all from Ebonyi State
10). Almost the Interns are from Ebonyi
11).Almost the Locum Staff from Ebonyi State
12). Head Of ‘Catcham’- MD Hit Squad Mr Mathew Eze handles and handcuff patients without training from ebonyi
13). All Drivers in md Office are from Ebonyi
14). He hired a Private company to collect Revenue of the hospital with POS and Patients pay POS charge also, instead of Remitta as instructed by Federal Govt
15). Kept Transport Department redundant, all Motors are being repaired by one Mechanic from Ebonyi state
16). He sent the wife to UK with full pay contrary to Head Of Service Circular while denying others same opportunity. All the Staff that are his relations do not come to work
16). He collects Money from the Intern and Locum staff before employment
17). He sent the former Principal mrs buzo maduka whom the Minister gave contract to the Disciplinary committee for not coming to work which is not true so as to sack her
18). He sent Mr Kelechi Egbudu to disciplinary committee inorder to sack him nothwithstanding that the Minister brought him back after MD sacked him for 2years
19). All contract done in the hospital do not follow due process, they are being done by proxy between MD and Ebonyi Men
20). 90 percent of all the employment in the hospital are people from Ebonyi

22). The Chairman of the hospital hall collect Cash from those that hire it instead of Remitta
Igboke urged the SGF to “set up an independent panel to review Igwe’s unlawful activities.”
