The Ogun police command has confirmed the death of six people after taking alcohol donated by a friend in Ogbogbo, Ijebu North-East LGA of the state.

According to NAN, the incident happened on Tuesday at a drinking spot where the seven friends gathered for merriment.

According to witnesses, six people from a clique of friends had an altercation with one member of the group.

However, the group of friends eventually resolved to reconcile, and the individual at the centre of the conflict donated a bottle of drink for resolution.

All those that reportedly ingested the drink died except the seventh person who allegedly served the alcohol he brought from his home.

He was said to have abstained from taking the drink.

Two of the friends died shortly after the merriment, while four others were hospitalised and gave up the ghost the following day.

The suspect was reported to have fled the area following the incident.

Confirming the report on Saturday, Omolola Odutola, Ogun police spokesperson, said the families of the deceased opted against pressing charges.

“I just confirmed that something like that occurred, but the families said they were not pressing charges and prefer to bury their dead,” she said.
