The 258 councillors of Enugu State have expressed sadness over the gruesome murder of one of them, Hon. Sylvester Ofunwa Duhu.

Hon. Ofunwa who was gruesomely murdered by gunmen in his country home was the Councillor representing Eha Ulo Ward in Nsukka LGA.

In a press conference signed by the 17 legislative leaders after a candlelight procession at Okpara Square, Enugu, the Lawmakers commended the “Commissioner of police and all the security agencies in the state for their speedy response in investigating the murder case of one of us and equally implore them to speedy action to bring the perpetrators to book.”

They also urged the Commissioner of police to beef up security in their various wards.

Also, the 260 ward Councillors prayed for the Governor, His Excellency, Barr Peter Mbah, to succeed in the area of security, while commending the government’s efforts in ending the menace of sit at Home in the state assuring to “support in mobilizing our wards to key into this fight, aimed at restoring the economy of our state.”

Speaking further, “The Forum of Enugu state Councillors are begging for improved welfare for councillors especially in the hard economy. Monthly take home and allowances of Councillors does not reflect the present situation of the country. The burden of the ward falls on us with our meager salary.”
