“What is in that report is just a figment of the imagination of the conjurers,” was the exact words of one of the persons present when former Enugu State Governor, Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi played host to a community from Igboeze South local government.
Another medium had reported that the meeting was a hostile one as the former Governor never gave his visitors audience to express themselves.
But when contacted, one of the persons in the meeting told JOURNALIST101 that “the report is as embarrassing as it’s riddled with falsehood” and wondered what the fictitious writer wishes to achieve by such misrepresentation.
Narrating what happened, the source who simply identified himself as Samson said “we were never in that meeting with any other community and that’s the first lie in the story some disgruntled fellow are spreading.
“We simply went to the former Governor to seek for his intercession in our desire to have an autonomous community. He listened to us with rapt attention after which he told us that he has done his time as a Governor and doesn’t wish to interfere in the decision making of the current administration in line with his principle. He encouraged us to take our request to the ministry of Chieftaincy affairs.”
Reacting to the issue of the last election as captured in the report, Mr. Samson stressed that there was no mention of what happened in the last election during their meeting, adding that “I saw a man who has moved on comfortably and is at peace with himself. In his usual nature, he encouraged us to continue living in peace in our community.”
Another person who was in the meeting but doesn’t want his name in print at the moment said “every Enugu person knows the humane and unassuming nature of his Excellency, thus asking me if he shouted on us is strange to me as there was no need for such in the first place.”
He further noted that the ex-Governor owes them nothing and seeing them “was at his discretion and if he doesn’t want to see us he won’t give us the appointment and we can’t force ourselves into his house.
“I think this is a calculated attempt at smearing the former Governor who has continued to enjoy enormous goodwill among the people. A lot of persons are trooping in to see him on daily basis whenever they hear he’s in town.”
