The new minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assumed office with issuing of series of threats to the residents of the nation’s capital barely two hours after he was inaugurated to work in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

After he took the oath of office administered that Chief Justice of Nigerian, Olukayode Ariwoola, Wike announced that he would not allow illegal buildings in Abuja to remain standing as the FCT minister.

“All those people who are distorting the master plan of Abuja, too bad! too bad!! If you know you’ve built where you’re not supposed to build, it will go down! it will go down!! Be you a minister of anywhere, be an Ambassador, if you know you’ve developed where you’re not supposed to develop, your house must go down!

Speaking further in a press conference, Wike also warned those who have taken over the green area to build, stressing that “Our parks must come back! The green areas must come back! If you hate green, you must hate yourself. If you know anybody who’s involved, and have taken over the green areas, it will go down.”

The former Rivers State Governor also warned that era of “land marketing” is gone and promised to deal with any staff of the FCT involved in the illegal trade.

“Let me tell you, that period of land marketing is over! And those that refused to develop their lands after government has given them CofO, and are becoming land Speculators, the land is gone, I’m going to revoke them.

He didn’t stop there, the FCT Minister warned those that have refused to pay their “ground rent” that they should get ready because “non payment of rent is a breach of covenant.”

“If you haven’t paid, be you national whatever, big man oh (sic), banks oh, sorry. I’ll not be tired to revoke, that’s why I’m here.”

He also said that the issue of waste management will be taken more seriously as dirts littered everywhere.

“look at refuse everywhere, those we’re paying for refuse collection, what are they doing? So, we must also sit down to look at different ways of waste management/disposal as it’s very very key.”
