The scheduled arraignment of the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele has been stalled for a second time.
Emefiele’s arraignment over alleged breach of procurement laws and contract inflation alongside an employee of the apex bank, Saadatu Yaro was was adjourned till today but the case is not listed on the cause list.
According to ait.live, Emefiele is trying to enter into a plea agreement with the federal government, which led to the absence of both the prosecution and the defendants in the matter.
No date was given for a fresh arraignment
Emefiele’s lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kehinde Akinlolu, confirmed the shift in the arraignment.
He said that a new date may likely be issued by the Chief Judge, Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf.
At the time of this report, operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, who used to escort him to court, and his legal team were absent.
