The Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, approved the elevation of the Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB) to a Department within the Nigeria Police Force, a move aimed at enhancing internal security measures and addressing contemporary challenges.

As part of this transformation, Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Habu Sani, a seasoned and highly experienced officer, was appointed as the new Head of the Force Intelligence Department (FID). DIG Habu Sani has a strong background, including various specialized courses, and has served in various operational, investigative, and administrative capacities within the Nigeria Police Force.

Additionally, Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) were appointed to head Zonal Intelligence Departments (ZIDs) and State Intelligence Departments (SIDs) nationwide, with the goal of infusing these units with leadership possessing operational experience, strategic thinking, and a commitment to maintaining law and order. This is expected to result in more effective intelligence operations and crime prevention.

Furthermore, a delegation from Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, including its founder, Abdulraheem Oladimeji, OFR, and the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Noah Yusuf, visited the IGP at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, expressing their intention to partner with the Nigeria Police College of Intelligence in Kwara State for training and research in intelligence-related disciplines.

They also offered to provide special degree-awarding courses for participants of Senior Command Courses at the Police Staff College, Jos. The IGP directed the DIG in charge of Training and Development to work on developing a memorandum of understanding with the university, highlighting the NPF’s commitment to boosting its intelligence capacity and nurturing a new generation of intelligence professionals.
