The Enugu State National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal on Friday, sacked Prof. Sunday Nnamchi of the Labour Party as the House of Representatives member for Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency in Enugu State.
The three-man panel led by A. M. Abubakar declared Hon. Prince Cornelius Nnaji, the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, as the duly elected candidate of the February 25th, 2023 poll.
Nnaji had approached the tribunal to seek the Nullification of Professor Nnam’s declaration as he wasn’t qualified to stand for the election in the first place and also, wasn’t properly sponsored by his party.
In its Judgment on the petition, the tribunal agreed with the petitioner that the candidate of the Labour Party was not qualified to contest the election as he never resigned from the university before seeking for the new position as required by the new electoral act.
