The Governorship Candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) for the imo state gubernatorial election, Hon. Uche Ben Odunzeh has promised to revolutionize the agricultural sector of the state
The Governorship hopeful said he will adopt a model known as the Songhai project investment to improve the productivity of farmers in imo state by strengthening production in areas where the state has comparative advantage for commercial agriculture and link production to markets.
He also targets to improve the agro-processing activities in the state as means of increasing yield for revenue.
The Songhai -project investment model involves the use of really dedicated and knowledgeable agricultural investors to establish integrated, resource, recycling, multi enterprise farm facilities in the state for short term training of different commodity farmers.
Hon. Odunzeh emphasized that the idea is to encourage young agriculture graduates from the many universities to set up on their own enterprise after a one to two months practical attachment to any of these farm facilities.
According to him, the model will contribute to job creation and economic growth in imo state by diversifying agricultural production, skills training/capacity building, value addition, renewable energy, waste recycling, multiplier effect on local economy and increase the export potential of the state.
