A seventy-years-old man, Mr. Anthony Mgbenwa Okpara, has been accused of killing a 13-year-old deaf and dumb girl, Ms. Uche Onwuzuru, after sexually abusing her.
It was gathered that incident happened in Aborjieze village, Umuagu-Inyi Autonomous Community in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State.
A source in the community, who pleaded anonymity, said the corpse of the late Onwuzuru has been deposited in a mortuary by the culprit.
According to the source, Okpara, who initially ran away after the incident, is now promising to build a house for the family as well as marry the late Onwuzuru in death.
“A man who is above 70years of age by name Mr Anthony Mgbenwa Okpara took advantage of a 13-year-old girl who is deaf and dumb. Her name is Uche Onwuzuru. Her father’s name is Mr Cyril Ajala Onwuzuru.
“By taking advantage I mean she was sexually abused to the point that the little girl lost her life immediately after the act.
“The interest in this matter is that the parents of this young girl are wretched and poor and the girl a minor, deaf and dumb at the same time she is dead due to this act.
“Now Mr Anthony Mgbenw Okpara ran away immediately he got wind of the death of this girl. However, after series of persuasions he came and submitted himself to the police”, the source narrated.
She however alleged that the man was doing everything possible to bribe the Police from proceeding with the case.
While regretting the death of the poor physically challenged girl, the source said the community want the matter to be determined in law of competent jurisdiction to serve as a deterrent to other perpetuators.
