The Lagos State government has announced a total ban of street trading, hawking, building illegal structure on drainage systems, and displaying of wares on walkways across the state.

Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Environment and Water Resources in Lagos State, Tokunbo Wahab disclosed this on his X handle.

According to Wahab, the move is part of the renewed effort to ensure a cleaner, safer, and healthy environment.

He said this is meant to curtail the nefarious activities of hawkers who disguise to rob motorists and street traders who disrupt the free flow of traffic on highways and streets.

He stated that he has directed the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (popularly known as KAI) to strictly enforce compliance to the environmental sanitation laws.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner ordered the immediate closure of Ladipo Market, Mushin, for several environmental offences.

Among the offenses are reckless waste disposal, unhygienic premises, and non-payment of waste bills, among others

He said the market would remain closed until the mandatory conditions of redress were met by traders and market stakeholders.

He added that it was part of ongoing efforts at instilling compliance in markets around the state.
