The Delta State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) held its much-anticipated elections at the state secretariat on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. The election, characterized by transparency and a keen sense of democratic values, saw Comrade Churchill Oyowe emerge as the newly elected NUJ Chairman to pilot the affairs of the council for the next three years.

The election brought together journalists from various media houses across the state.

Comrade Churchill Oyowe, Chairman, Deputy Director, Ministry of Information defeated Comrade Salvation Ogono, another Deputy Director of the Ministry of Information.

The immediate past NUJ Chairman, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu congratulated the new executives and urged them to embrace all irrespective of the political differences and work as a team to take the union to greater heights.

At the time of this report, Comrade Oyowe and his teeming supporters were still in the celebration mood.

He said, “I congratulate the winner of this election. I am happy for you. I also want to let the new executive know that this victory is for all members of the Union. Therefore,they should do everything possible to unite all and take the union to an Eldorado.”

Other members of the new executive include Comrade Comrade Felix Ekwu, Vice Chairman,Comrade Victor Sorokwu, Secretary,Josephine Omodion, Assistant Secretary and Comrade Celestine Afokobah, Auditor.
