The Peoples Democratic Party, Ebonyi State chapter, has said a former President of the Senate and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim and his lieutenants had long ceased to be members of the main opposition party, in the state.
The PDP said the ex-SGF, Anyim; a former Senator, who represented Ebonyi South Senatorial Zone, Sen Obinna Ogba, and a few local government chairmen of the party in the state ceased to be its members the moment they declared support for the All Progressives Congress before and during the 2023 general elections.
The Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Comrade Chika Nwoba, said this, on Monday.
Recall news made the rounds that Anyim; Ogba; Makwe; and some LGA chairmen of the PDP dumped the party, for the APC in Ebonyi State, on Sunday.
But the PDP, on Monday, said Anyim and his lieutenants had long joined the APC, but had been looking for an opportunity to ‘move on’, adding they were moles within its ranks and files.
The Ebonyi PDP said, “The attention of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has been drawn to a piece of news making the rounds alleging that some chairmen of the party in some local government areas of the state have dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress. The news is coming to the party as a surprise knowing full well that the above mentioned names are not members of the party at their respective council areas over some months now.
“For the records, the five former chairmen of the party in Ikwo, Ezza South, Izzi, Ohaozara and Ivo LGAs were suspended and subsequently expelled from the party long before the 2023 polls over their actions of anti party. They’re part of those who declared support for the APC alongside the former SGF — Anyim Pius Anyim, Sen. Obinna Ogba and others. It’s on record that these men made nomination of them into the leadership of the party at their respective council areas hence the need for them to wear their shoes into the other feet when their principals switched alliance against the PDP. The same was the case of a former House of Representatives member, Hon. Livinus Makwe who decided to join his principal, Anyim to move into the APC.
“It’s shocking to read from the news that these men who have always been with the APC are quitting PDP they had left before the 2023 polls. The PDP in Ebonyi State had long forgotten their existence and as such, shocked to read they’re still parading themselves as members of the party. In the light of the foregoing, the party urges members of the public and the press to disregard the news as the APC is only trying to use them to distract the party poised to reclaiming its mandate at the tribunal. The men ceased to be PDP members before the polls of 2023 and as such, anomalous to claim that they’re quitting the party when their positions had long been voided and immediately filled with their seconds-in-command.”
