The Chairman of Ezeagu local government area of Enugu State, Hon. Chukwudi Ozoeluba on Wedneday, flagged off a 4 weeks intensive training of 100 youths selected from the 20 electoral wards in the council area.

The event with the theme “Learn, work and earn” was held at the local government headquarters in Aguobu Owa.

In his opening remarks Hon. Ozoeluba said the event is in recognition of the need to empower the youths and unemployed in the council, adding that the program is in line with human capital development initiative of Governor Peter Mbah.

“We are doing this to teach you how to fish and put an end to the era of tokenism as well as give you the economic power to survive.

“We want to leave economically independent youths as we complete this tenure of our administration.”

The council Boss also charged the beneficiaries to take their training very seriously as there will be rewards for the outstanding participants in the various categories.

He also stated that 20 persons (1 from each of the wards) will be selected, trained and empowered to own a Point of Sales (PoS) Centre in their wards.

In his address, the Supervisor in charge of Education in the LGA, Hon. Eziokwu Ernest, said the exercise is to make them learn a craft from the arrays of trainings lined up for them which he said includes; Computer Application, Fashion designing and tailoring, crafts and arts (barbing, hair saloon and bead making), make-up, Bakery (meat pie, small chops etc.), Solar power/Inverter Technology.

Hon. Eziokwu said the training will be concluded with a Business/Leadership training for the successful participants in training, to guide them on how best to manage their business.

He disclosed that the training will be held in three centres from 8th November to 5th December, 2023.

Some of the participants that spoke to our correspondent, expressed optimism that the exercise will avail them the opportunity to learn new skills and improve their economic condition,

For Okafor Chinedu from Ishiagu Umumba, he said he will be participating in the computer training and said that “I want to gather new knowledge to be able to compete in the ICT world and we’re in the era of artificial intelligence, hence the knowledge of computer is sacrosanct.”

Another participant, Mrs. Ibe Ngozi Maryann from Umumba Ndiagu said she wants to learn Fashion designing and tailoring to be in tune with the modern trend in the fashion industry.

The event was attended by the deputy chairman of the LGA, Hon. Hyginus Chiweteoke; Secretary of the council, Sabastine Igboanugo; HPM, Mrs. Onwucheta; SPA on Youths, Comr. Ozoagu Chibuike, Supervisors, Ward Councillors among others
