It was another added feather on the fitted cap of the immediate past Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, at the NUJ Press Centre, Enugu, recently as members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Enugu State chapter at their annual press week grand finale conferred on him the Award of the Outstanding Sports Promoter Personality Of The Year in recognition of his immense contributions and unwavering commitment to the development of sports in the state, while in office as Governor.

These enormous and unprecedented feats of the ex- Governor include the lifting of Rangers International Football Club, Enugu from 36 years of trophyless to winning of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPL) and AITEO cups in 2016 and 2018 respectively, remarkable events that had remained evergreen in the minds and memories of soccer lovers in Enugu State, Southeast and Nigeria at large.

Others are modernizing, transforming and reconstructing of 6000 capacity Nsukka Township Stadium into a state of the art facility, promotion of grassroots sports in the rural communities and others.

Ex-Governor Ugwuanyi, who was represented at the event by his former Special Adviser on Media/ Publicity, Hon. Samson Ezea, thanked the organizers for the honour and assured them of his continous support and commitment to sport development and humanity.

The occasion which was chaired by the Chairman Rangers Supporters Club, Mr. Foster Chime had in attendance representative of the Enugu State Commissioner for Sports and Director of Information in the Ministry, Dan Onwuegbuna, Former Super Eagles Coach, Christian Chukwu, and other awardees.

Keynote speech titled “The role of sport journalists in advancing sport development through objective reporting was delivered by former Special Adviser to Enugu Governor on Information, Barr. Steve Orurou.
