Enugu government has decried the spate of destruction of public utilities facilities such as water pipes, electric cables and roads by contractors doing various works in the state.
In a public service announcement, the state government said such destruction won’t be tolerated going forward.
The announcement which was signed by the secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia while stating that defaulters going forward, will face the full weight of the law while inviting all contractors involved in in laying of fibre optic cables and road constructions to an urgent meeting in his office.
The announcement reads:
The Enugu State Government has observed with dismay the indiscriminate destruction of public utilities such as water pipes, electric cables and roads by contractors and contract workers in the course of laying of fibre optic cables, road construction, mounting of billboards or any other activity that requires digging or drilling in Enugu State.
The government hereby issues a stern warning that such destructions or damages will be treated as gross acts of economic sabotage for which the offenders shall be sanctioned with fines for full restoration of the damaged facilities, in addition to possible criminal prosecution.
Meanwhile, all contractors involved in laying of fibre optic cables and road constructions in the state are invited to an urgent meeting at the Office of the Secretary to the State Government as follows:
