Chukwuemeka Okolie, the Chairman Obinagu Umuatubo Village Progressive Union has raised concern over the “illegal tax collection” activities of some persons under the guise of Ogbaku general assembly as a town union in Awgu local government area of Enugu State.
In a message made available to JOURNALIST101, Mr. Okolie popularly known as Ahawaluezeama said there’s no entity known as Ogbaku general assembly town union following the creation of two autonomous communities in the area.
He said that it’s criminal for anyone to register a town union with the Corporate Affairs Commission and use same to extort people at the various pits in their communities.
His words:
“Ogbaku as an entity ceased to exist legally immediately after the creation of Eziama and Ibite Ogbaku respective autonomous communities in 2002. The government of Enugu state only certified, recognize and deal with Ibite and Eziama Ogbaku autonomous community Town Unions.
“As long as Enugu state government is concerned there’s no longer anything like Ogbaku general assembly as a town union. Town unions and other community bodies are not to be registered with CAC but with the ministry of Rural Development or Local Government. CAC only registers businesses, Social Clubs, Religious Groups and NGOs. Any Town Union, Youth or community with CAC certificate is a scam.
“If we decide to promote Ogbaku as an entity it should be with understanding and should be based on agreement. Amechi Uwani and Amechi Uno autonomous communities generates revenue independently not as Amechi community
“So if you are demanding revenue from registered organizations and companies as town union be Careful.”
