There are indications that the embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele might have been placed under security watchlist by the Federal government of Nigeria hours after his release from Kuje Prison.

Emefiele was released from Kuje prisons after meeting his bail conditions on Friday, December 22, 2023.

The spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in charge of Kuje Correctional Centre, Adamu Sampson Duza, confirmed Emefiele’s release to journalists on Saturday.

“I can confirm to you that he (Emefiele) has met his bail conditions, hence he has no reason to remain in our facility. He met his bail condition and was released past 2pm yesterday (Friday),” Duza said.

However, hours after Emefiele’s release, TheNation reports that security agencies have been commissioned to watch over his movements.

Quoting top sources at the Nigeria Immigration Service the newspaper added that federal government asked the Service to watch over Emefiele’s movements in and out of the country.

This is even as the private investigator, Jim Obaze, has uncovered a massive corruption scandal at the CBN under Emefiele’s watch.

According to a report he submitted to President Bola Tinubu, Emefiele operated over 500 illegal foreign bank accounts and used his cronies to purchase some commercial banks among other weighty claims.

Emefiele is yet to speak on the allegations raised by Obaze.
