The Rivers state Commissioner for Information, and Communications, Joseph Johnson has confirmed the resignation of Chidi Amadi, Chief of Staff to the Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Mr. Johnson said contrary to the speculations that Amadi just resigned, the Chief of Staff resigned alongside the commissioners that threw in the towel in the heat of the crisis in 2023.

In an audio recording posted by Wave917fm, the Information commissioner said “Chidi Amadi left alongside the other commissioners who left… it’s not a new story…”

He added also that contrary to earlier reports that the former factional speaker, Edison Ehie has been appointed as the new chief of Staff, the Governor has not named any replacement.

“…Chidi Amadi has resigned and if the Governor has appointed, he will let me know and I’ll announce it, so when the news started singing as if he just resigned yesterday, it’s not true.”

Before he was appointed as the Chief of Staff, Amadi, who is from the same Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state with Wike, was the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the LGA, and a known ally of the Federal Capital Terrritory, FCT, minister.

Amadi’s resignation brings to 10 the number of principal members of the Fubara cabinet who have parted ways with him as a result of the rift between the governor and his former political godfather, Wike.
