The Senator representing Abia North Senatorial zone, Orji Uzor Kalu, has urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritize power generation and the security challenges facing the country and boost the economy in the year 2024 because Nigerians are really suffering.
Senator Kalu made the call while addressing newsmen in his Igbere country home, while presenting security patrol vehicles to the Nigerian Police Force Area Commands and the Igbere Vigilante group.
The former Abia State governor identified epileptic power supply, corruption and crime as the major problems facing the nation.
“President Tinubu should put his feet on the ground to address issues about the economy, fight corruption and crime and Nigeria society will be good.”
He also said that he’s aware that the president is having sleepless night on the best way to fight crime and revamp the economy which he inherited in a bad shape.
“Nigerians are really suffering but it’s not the making of the present administration or the previous ones but it’s something that has been there for decades and bursting slowly but we need to all come together and support the government at all levels.
“The people should also support the police because the government alone can’t solve all their problems because of the paucity of funds and you can see that the new Inspector General of Police is very effective but they should be supported.”
He further called on his constituents in Abia North and all Nigerians to abstain from violence and criminal activities and encouraged them to key into the opportunities that the agricultural sector presents and contribute to the upliftment of the Nigerian economy.
Emphasizing the importance of patriotism, he stressed that individuals should refrain from engaging in activities that result in the destruction of lives and public property, asserting that such actions are grievous mistakes.
While highlighting his past initiatives, such as installing solar electricity in parts of Abia North, Senator Kalu lamented the vandalism of some facilities by criminals. Despite this setback, he expressed confidence that the Nigerian Police and Igbere Vigilante group would now be better equipped to function optimally with the provision of the patrol vehicles.
In his remarks while receiving the operational vans, Abia State Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, acknowledged that his personnel in the designated Area Commands and Division now have no excuse to default in their responsibility to secure lives and property.
