The Mburubu Council of Chiefs (Igwe Cabinet) has disowned the controversial self-proclaimed ‘Igwe-elect, Mr Jerry Patrick Onukaibe, insisting that he was never nominated, selected/elect or recommended to anybody by the community for the position of traditional stool of the community.
The council made this known in a communiqué made available to journalists.
The communiqué described the self-presentation of Mr Jerry Patrick Onukaibe to the Chairman of Nkanu East LGA of Enugu State as embarrassing to the community, adding that he was not qualified to present himself or be presented for selection or election as the traditional ruler of the community, rather he has engaged in impersonation.
“Consequently, the council decided to make some clarifications on the matter; since the demised of His Majesty, Igwe Emmanuel Ezeh (Ozulumba I of Mburubu Kingdom), Mburubu has not collectively gone through the process of selecting new Igwe in line with the custom and tradition of Mburubu Kingdom and as enshrined in the constitution of Mburubu Town Union.
“Mburubu Town Union is the only recognized Town Union of the community any other organization parading as the town’s union does not represent the opinion and interest of the entire Mburubu Kingdom and has no locus standi apriori to speak for the community.
“Therefore the purported presentation of Mr. Jerry Patrick Onukaibe to the Nkanu East Local Government by Mburubu General Assembly kangarooed by Chijioke Nwachukwu, Obinna Okonkwo, Eze Philip Aniobi, Emma Orji, Patrick Onu and Mrs. Agness Orji is despicable, contemptible, appalling, senseless, and should be disregarded. Its nulled and void and of no consequential.
“We urge the Honourable Commissioner for local government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Okey Ogbodo, to disregard the poorly constructed letter transmitted to him for necessary action. The letter is worthless in grammar, content and purpose.
“Mr Jerry Patrick Onukaibe should discontinue from parading himself as Igwe-Elect of Mburubu and desist from his consistent and incoherent actions as they are subversive.
“The kingdom is made up of Seven (7) Villages, therefore faceless and weird Mburubu General Assembly has no powers to present anybody as Igwe-Elect of the Community. We are aware they are influenced to hatch and incubate crises but we counsel them to desist forthwith from fanning the ember of war in the community.
In reaction to media publications, the Mburubu Council of Chiefs stated that the entire content of the publication is a “brazen deceit, laughable, an embarrassment and therefore should be discountenanced in its entirety as it was only meant to mislead the public, government/security agencies and other well-meaning sons and daughters of Mburubu kingdom.”
