Udenu Legislative Council on Wednesday, held a public hearing to pass the bye-law prohibiting open defecation and other related offenses in the area.
The Bye-law is to make provision against open Defecation and related offenses in Udenu local Government Area of Enugu and to prevent Environmental and Health Hazards, Regulate Excreta Disposal, promote usage of toilets by families and members of the public within the council Area, Strengthen and sustain Udenu LGA open Defecation Free (ODF) Status.
The Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Nnamdi Odo speaking on behalf of the Councillors, said the bye-law will improve the health status of their people, while thanking the people for coming out en-masse to give the law the needed life.
Hon. Odo also thanked the Chairman of the Local Government for his support towards the legislatures to carry out their functions effectively.
In his remarks, the Local Government chairman, Hon. Eze Gideon Tochukwu represented by the Secretary of the Local Government, assured that the Executive was very much ready to assent to the bye-law when it gets to their table.
Also speaking, the Udenu Divisional Police Officer alongside other security agencies assured of their readiness to help prosecute offenders once the bill is passed into law.
