Jibrin Samuel Okutepa, A Senior Advocate of Nigeria has taken swipe at the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC for attributing the protest by Nigerians over the hardship in Nigeria to the opposition party.
Recall that APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka had in a statement said the protests in Niger, Kano and Kogi states over the unbearable hardship in the country is sponsored by the opposition party, warning them not to incite the public against the federal government.
But in a post on his X account, Okutepa said the statement “is as funny as it is ridiculous and irresponsible, to say the least,” wondering why it’s “hard for Nigerian politicians to admit failure.”
He further stated that “It is insensitive and insulting for anyone to attribute the spontaneous reactions of distressed Nigerians to poverty ravaging the land, to sponsorship of political parties in opposition.”
The statement reads;
Nigerian political class will not stop amazing me. Yesterday or so, I read on social media and heard on the news that APC National Publicity Secretary was quoted as saying that the protests by Nigerians across the states on account of high cost of living was being orchestrated by opposition political parties. He warned that the opposition parties should be careful not to incite Nigerians against the government.
This statement is as funny as it is ridiculous and irresponsible, to say the least. Why is it hard for Nigerian politicians to admit failure. Is the poverty in the land and high costs of living not visible for the blind to see and the deaf to hear. If not for the docility of Nigerians as a people by now, the brains of those lording over us should have been reset to factory settings. It is insensitive and insulting for anyone to attribute the spontaneous reactions of distressed Nigerians to poverty ravaging the land, to sponsorship of political parties in opposition.
Let the government solve Nigerian problems. The duties and responsibilities of the government are to protect the lives and properties of the citizens and make basic social amenities available for the comfort of its citizens. Today, the vast majority of Nigerians are living in abject poverty. The minimum wage is not even enough for transportation, not to talk of housing and feeding. Hospitals only exist in names. Medical cares are far from Nigerians.
Farmers can not go to their farms. Nobody can travel freely without their rights to freedom from fear being trampled upon by kidnappers. Nigerians are in hell in their own country, and someone will wake to say the reactions of Nigerians are being sponsored. What a country. Lives being lost mean nothing to those lording over us. Let these politicians fear God. Nigerians are suffering. Nigerians need their government to protect them. Nigerians need their government to make the economy favourable for all to enjoy. Nigerians want their government to show care and concern for their plights.
Nigerians are not finding things easy, and the government must listen to spontaneous reactions of Nigerians and do something to solve the problems bedevilling our nation. Nigerians are tired of excuses by those in power.
The same politicians that foisted these problems on us must be held accountable for the consequences of their squandermania and corruption ravaging our land.
